Lifestyle Medicine & Weight Management In Norwich

Lifestyle Medicine & Weight Management

Helen offers a lifestyle medicine and weight management clinic.

Lifestyle medicine is an evidence-based approach to healthcare that focuses on helping people develop healthy habits and make lasting lifestyle changes to improve overall wellbeing, help persistent unexplained symptoms and prevent or treat chronic diseases. The assessment involves the measurement of several biometric markers, heart tracing, fitness testing and grip strength with the option of blood tests. This information can then form the basis for a personalised lifestyle improvement plan. In the weight management clinic a lifestyle medicine approach is initially considered with the option of adding in the weight loss injection Wegovy or Mounjaro, if indicated.  This is prescribed with regular monitoring and appropriate nutrition and physical activity advice to ensure the best outcome for you.

Lifestyle Medicine and Weight Management Clinic

I have worked as a GP for over 20 years and during this time I have been involved in many areas including Women’s health, fitting of contraceptive implants, medical education and have worked as the Clinical Lead for Cancer and End of Life.

My real passion throughout my career has been empowering people to make the right choices to live a long healthy life and significantly reduce the risk of developing long term conditions or to better control pre-existing conditions.

Studying Lifestyle Medicine and Obesity and Weight Management has given me the knowledge and experience alongside my General Practice work to be able to perform a thorough, holistic assessment and deliver evidence-based guidance around all aspects of lifestyle including physical activity, nutrition, sleep and stress management.

If you are struggling with fatigue, weight gain, long term pain, stress, bloating and abdominal discomfort and tests have not found a cause for the symptoms then it could be that lifestyle is playing a part in this. You may want to explore the possibility of weight loss injections with the assurance of a regular review and nutritional and physical activity advice given alongside these to ensure this is done safely with minimal side effects. Alternatively, you may want to get into shape before an operation or even try to avoid an operation by making changes to your lifestyle. You may simply wish to find out how to lead a healthier life.

In the consultation I will measure biometric markers including height, weight, blood pressure, BMI, body fat, visceral fat and skeletal muscle percentage, grip strength, heart rate monitoring and a 3 minute fitness test.  I can also do blood tests for a more detailed assessment.

We then use this information to formulate a plan together to start making positive sustainable changes for healthier years ahead.
