Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage encourages the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back towards the heart. The aim is to encourage the lymph fluid to move away from the swollen area, so it can drain normally. It also helps lymph fluid drain through the healthy lymph vessels, which helps control swelling. Unlike blood which is pumped around by your heart, the lymph system has no pump. The pressure from your blood vessels and movement from your muscles push the lymphatic fluid around. A healthy, active lymphatic system uses the natural movements of smooth muscle tissue to do this.
Manual lymphatic drainage is very therapeutic, using very light pressure with long gentle rhythmic and repetitive strokes to increase the flow of lymph and reduce toxins in your body. Sometimes referred to as a ‘Detox Massage’, this type of massage will support your body’s internal filtration mechanisms and help boost your immune system. The lymph system is part of your body's immune system and helps fight infection. Lymph itself is a clear, slightly yellow fluid.
Surgery and medical conditions can cause fluids to build up in your lymph system and your lymph nodes. Procedures that affect or remove your lymph nodes can cause lymphedema as a side effect. Swelling also known as edema, can happen anywhere in the body. It’s commonly seen in the hands, arms, feet, ankles, and legs.
It can also benefit you if you are experiencing Fibromyalgia, Skin disorders, Fatigue, Insomnia, Stress, Digestive Conditions, Arthritis, Migraines, wound healing and scarring from surgery.
Lymphatic drainage is frequently recommended by plastic surgeons during the recovery phase following cosmetic liposuction. As it decrease swelling, pain and bruising.This specialised form of massage helps to decrease recovery time and improve results, by reducing post-surgical swelling and fibrosis (scar tissue formation).
It can also boost your immune system if you suffer from colds and flu regularly. Or if you have Post-viral symptoms like muscle pain, general weakness, sleep difficulties, joint pain, cognitive fatigue or low mood.
If you have Cellulite it can be reduced on the tops of your legs, stomach and back. Improving the look and feel of your skin and fatty deposits.

Claire is a chartered physiotherapist and specialises in musculoskeletal physiotherapy addressing issues with muscles and joints including back, shoulder or knee pain, sports or work related injuries. Claire also has experience in women's health and can help pregnant and postnatal clients to address muscle and joint pain.
Claire is a trained massage therapist providing Swedish, Sports, Pregnancy, Oncology and “TMJD therapy” (for people with issues related to temporo-mandibular joint disorder) at Treat Norwich. She is trained in Myofascial Release, acupuncture, dry needling and Chinese cupping to provide further relief from muscular tension, acute or chronic pain
Claire trained in Pilates in 2014, she teaches 1:1 sessions for injury rehabilitation, sports performance and to help clients manage or overcome long term health problems such as arthritis or osteoporosis. Claire understands that it is often the quality, not the quantity of movement that determines health, fitness and sporting success and she was drawn to Pilates because its principles of alignment, concentration and control -moving and exercising with correct technique which is important in all aspects of exercise and daily life. Claire uses Pilates in her physiotherapy treatments and also teaches it 1:1 as a method to help maintain health and wellbeing.
Claire worked in the health and fitness industry before completing a Masters degree in physiotherapy at UEA. She has 10 years experience working in health, fitness and rehabilitation and has worked at many sporting events including the London Paralympics, London marathon and Great North Run. Claire has also worked as a specialist personal trainer teaching exercise classes for: cancer rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation and orthopaedic conditions and continues to give exercise guidance to a wide range of people looking to get moving more despite health concerns.

Vicki started her career as a Massage Therapist at Neal’s Yard Remedies Treatment Rooms over 20 years ago, after qualifying in Holistic and Remedial Massage in at the Alison Rostron School of Massage in Norwich. But over many years Vicki has gone on to qualify and gain so much more experience, learning many other different types of Massage, Reflexology and even Hopi Ear Candling.
In 2016 Vicki diversified by qualifying in ITEC Diploma's levels 2 & 3 in Beauty Therapy with The Norwich School of Beauty, and enjoys the Beauty Treatments most that are combined with massage like facials and skincare treatments.
For seven years Vicki did on-site Massage Treatments at the head office of Virgin Money in Norwich. To help improve staff well-being, reduce absenteeism and help to alleviate work stress, tension and help ease muscular aches & pains, as part of their employee company healthcare benefits. Vicki also assisted hundreds of staff members that trained to run the Virgin Money London Marathon by doing regular sports massages, which helped everyone of them to get over the finishing line and receive their medals.
Over Vicki's vast Therapy career she has worked self-employed at other Health & Wellbeing Clinics, and Treatment Rooms in Norwich and joined Treat Health & Wellbeing Clinic in 2016.
