Therapist Spotlight: David Collyer
This week we’re thrilled to introduce one of our massage therapists to the Treat Community. He’s not new to the clinic and has been working at Treat for just over a year but we wanted to put his great work under the ‘spotlight’ so to speak. David offers two different types of massage as well as cupping therapy. Find out more about his offering and why he swapped his career as a Postie for a massage table…
How do people know which treatment to choose – can you tell us a bit about each?
I offer two types of massage, sports and deep tissue massage, as well as cupping therapy.
Sports massage targets specific muscles used in exercise or daily activity. It can help reduce tension, improve recovery, and prevent injury. A great option for active clients, or anyone with tight, overworked muscles.
Whereas deep tissue focuses on reducing chronic tension and knots by working into deeper layers of muscles. Ideal for stiffness, improving mobility and relieving everyday aches and pains.
Cupping therapy on the other hand is a little different. I use special suction cups to gently lift the tissue, increasing blood circulation. This approach helps reduce tight areas, reduce inflammation, and speed up recovery.

How did you get into massage?
I’ve been a massage therapist for two years now after a 25-year career at the Royal Mail. I’ve always been interested in human anatomy and that developed through my teenage years, whilst weight training. I began to understand the mechanics of my own body at quite an early age. I retrained because I needed a fresh challenge in my life, a career with more purpose and ‘hands on’ impact, something that genuinely helps people feel better on a daily basis.
How has massage helped you personally?
Massage has totally helped me in the past. Having suffered from lots of tears and muscular issues as my body has gotten older. I have been incredibly lucky to have met a string of good practitioners that have helped me on the road to recovery.
What are the benefits of massage?
Massage offers a wide range of benefits for both body and mind. It can release tension held in the body; boost circulation and blood flow; supports faster recovery; promotes flexibility and better movement, and can lower stress levels.
What do you like the most about being a massage therapist?
What I love most about being a massage therapist is the opportunity to really make people feel better, seeing the difference even one session can make. Whether it's easing chronic pain, improving movement or just helping someone totally switch off for an hour, the knowledge that you've made a positive impact on their day is very precious.
Why do you like most about working from Treat Norwich’s clinic?
Treat has been a wonderfully supportive environment to practise. Working alongside my fellow practitioners who are highly skilled, and more importantly, the clinic takes the time to nurture and support those of us growing in the industry.
What are your hobbies / how do you like to spend your spare time?
My hobbies are running, gym work, reading science fiction and being an avid movie buff.
In between being a father to four wonderful children, my spare time is spent swatting on everything, massaging and chilling with my partner.
