Preparing for Nesting Season: Autumn/Winter 2025 Goal Setting
As the summers starts to shift and the vibrant energy of summer gives way to the slower, quieter rhythm of autumn, many of us feel an inner pull to turn inward. The transition into the cooler months brings with it both natural change and emotional nuance - a time when routines evolve, energy levels fluctuate, and our wellbeing can be easily overlooked.
In this timely post, our in-house life coach here at Treat, the lovely Cathy Eden explores how autumn can be a powerful moment to reassess, recharge, and recommit to ourselves. Rather than resisting the slower pace, we’re invited to embrace it - to reflect on what we need, let go of what no longer serves us, and begin laying the emotional groundwork for winter.
Grab a warm drink, take a breath, and settle in.
Late summer is a great time for reflection and goal-setting for the months ahead. You can create actions that help you make more time and space for the rest of the year.
If you want to set some autumn and winter wellbeing goals, think about dealing with the underlying causes of stress and overwhelm rather than focussing on managing its effects. You might choose to commit to one small, non-negotiable self-care activity ever week. Even 15 minutes can make a difference. Alternatively, you might chose to focus on delegating tasks or asking for support in specific areas of your life.
Writing prompt recommendations
1. The move to autumn invites us to look inwards. Grab a pen and a notebook and reflect on this. Ask yourself: What have I been holding onto from this year that I’m ready to prune away and let go of? What feels essential to keep, collect and store to keep me going through the winter? Jot down your response.
2. Think of a time this summer when you felt most like yourself. What conditions made that possible? How can you recreate some of those conditions as you move out of the summer months? Write down your answers.
3. If you feel a sense of loss when the seasons change, write about what you’ll miss about the summer, but also what you’re looking forward to in the months ahead.
Autumn Tips for Lifestyle Changes
If summer felt overwhelming or you feel like you missed out on enjoyment, it might be because you;re carrying too much responsibility without enough support.
Identify one small area where you can lighten the load and delegate to someone else. It could be meal preparation, household chores or work tasks. You don’t have to dramatically overhaul your life (unless you feel called to). Small, consistent changes can create lasting impact.
Most importantly, if self-care feels selfish, remember that everyone benefits when you;re not operating from a place of depletion. You matter too. Self-care builds your capacity to be the person you want to be in your relationships and responsibilities. Sometimes the most caring thing we can do for others is making sure the levels of support we provide are sustainable. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
