A Different Approach to Chiropractic Care

We’re very excited here at Treat to welcome a brand new treatment and practitioner – the lovely Elyse. Elyse is a chiropractor specialising in the McTimoney technique. She first discovered chiropractic health when she was only three years of age, and decided it was her ‘calling’ by the time she turned ten. In this week’ s blog Elyse shares the crucial difference between chiropractic and McTimoney chiropractic care …

Chiropractic care is all about supporting you in improving your health, whether you’re experiencing pain or you just need a wellness boost. It is the art and science of using specifically targeted adjustments to your spine, to remove interference in your nervous system. This allows your body to do what it does best - and that is to heal and thrive.

Chiropractictors make a variety of adjustments in your body, designed to improve the function of your nervous system and your brain-to-body connection. As we know, the brain manages each function of the body for us. Our brain and body has the innate ability to self-heal and regulate, but sometimes it just needs a helping hand. Chiropractors work with the movement of the spine, to alleviate any pressure or interference on the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. Therefore, allowing the body to gently reconnect, and work to its best ability.

How is McTimoney Different?

McTimoney is a chiropractic method that uses what is known as, a low-force high-amplitude adjusting technique. Put simply, McTimoney chiropractors utilise a wide range of adjustments, which might seem light, but focus on dexterity, speed and a high level of accuracy, to ensure the desired outcome.

It therefore does not create the “crack” or popping sound typically associated with chiropractic adjustments, and is considered one of the most gentle, alternative therapies.

With each visit, a chiropractor assesses your whole body instead of simply focussing on one particular area of pain you may have. Although, yes, pain is a clear indicator of a presenting issue, adopting a more holistic approach allows the chiropractor to assess if the pain location is actually the root cause of the problem. In chiropractic care, one of the main factors is that we look for the cause of your problem, rather than just treating the symptoms.

Benefits of McTimoney Chiropractic

Most people assume chiropractic care is for back and/or neck pain, but it is so much more than that. We’ll get into the mechanisms behind why in next week’s blog, but for now, here are just a few things chiropractictors can help with:
