TMJ Massage
Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD) is the second most common cause of facial pain after dental disorders. Up to 20% of the population may be affected by TMJD
The temporomandibular joint connects the lower jaw to the skull - problems with the joint can cause a range of symptoms including; facial pain, limited mouth opening, headaches, dizziness, muscle spasms and tension. Referred pain to the neck, shoulders and back. Hearing problems, tinnitus and blurred vision.
TMJ Massage can make a big improvement to these symptoms by improving mouth opening, reducing pain and relieving muscle tension.
Massage treatments are adapted to individual symptoms and preferences and can include facial and intra-oral massage, passive stretching, trigger point therapy and myofascial techniques for the face, neck and shoulders.
Claire Gurney - a qualified Pilates Instructor, Physio and Massage Therapist completed a course in a very specialised therapy to treat a common, but frequently under-diagnosed, condition called “temporomandibular joint dysfunction”. Claire developed the condition herself and had to travel to London for treatment. She decided she’d spare other suffers the journey and completed TMJ therapy training to become one of the first practitioners in Norfolk to offer this effective form of treatment.
